Milwaukie Station Picnic Table Community Art Project

Project Overview

We are transforming our outdoor community dining space into a functional art gallery! We are seeking local artists of all levels of experience to paint the wood picnic tables at Milwaukie Station Food Carts. The theme is “Whimsical Milwaukie.”

Design Guidelines

• Content: Designs must be family-friendly and free of advertising or political messaging.
• Feasibility: The artwork must cover the top and bench surfaces of one of our existing wooden picnic tables. You can paint the table on the site with a dropcloth underneath or you take it home if you have a way to do that. Just make sure you bring it back within a month.
• Durability: For longer lasting art that can withstand heavy use and Oregon weather, we recommend that artists use exterior-grade acrylic paints or oil-based enamels. We’ll maintain it best we can, but know that it may flake or fade over time.
• Execution: We will provide the tables, light surface sanding, and an exterior primer layer. Artists are responsible for executing their approved design and applying the final clear protective topcoat if they choose.

• Artist Statement and Bio: A brief introduction to you and your creative work (maximum 250 words).
• Design and Proposal Sketch: A color rendering or digital mockup showing how your design will lay across the tabletop and benches.
• Short Narrative: A description of your design concept and how it connects to Whimsical Milwaukie.
• Portfolio: No portfolio required, but if you have images of previous art, we would love to see them.
